In clash royale, you can do many more things with star points, such as unlock skins and upgrade the star levels, but you can start to obtain them only after you hit king tower level 6. Star level comes with three levels, starting from star level one to three.
Star level 1 gives an Amazing deploy effect also a golden border for your card, Level 2 introduces skin to your card, and star level 3 improves skin on the card.

Best Ways to get Clash Royale Star Points
1. Donating/Upgrading cards:
One can obtain star points by donating or upgrading cards. You will get an equal number of experience and star points if you donate and upgrade cards- 1 for each Common, 10 for each Rare, and 100 for each Epic.
2. Chests
Another effective way to earn star points in CR is to unlock maxed-level cards from the chest. The amount depends on the rarity of the cards.
You get more points if you get maxed level legendary card and less for common. For example, if you have max level golem and get a golem from the chest, you will get 100-star points. [ 1 for each Common, 10 for each Rare, 100 for each Epic, and 1,000 for each Legendary.]

3. Trading / Shop:
Trading maxed level cards with the clanmates is the fastest way to obtain more star points in Clash Royale. The number of points depends on the rarity of the card you are trading.
Ask one of your clanmates to trade the card that you have maxed out, and after trading, you will get gold and star points. [ 1 for each Common, 10 for each Rare, 100 for each Epic, and 1,000 for each Legendary.] Also, you can buy a max-level card from the shop to convert it into star points.
